Nurturing Passion and Skill Through Photography
One such talent is Gasore Moussa, a dedicated young photographer from Rwanda, whose passion and perseverance have set him apart in the world of visual storytelling.
Meet Gasore Moussa – The 2024 Professional Photo Challenge Winner
Gasore Moussa, a 25-year-old photographer from Rwanda, Africa, discovered his love for photography by observing others. Growing up in a family of 12 children, he always sought creative outlets to express himself. After graduating from high school in 2022 with a focus on Mathematics, Economics, and Computer Science, he pursued his passion for photography, immersing himself in learning and practice.
Gasore’s Photography Journey
His journey in photography began three years ago, but it was in 2024 through the Photo Start program that he found structured learning and mentorship. Enrolling in online courses helped him develop his technical skills, and he quickly stood out among his peers as one of the program’s most promising students.
Gasore’s Winning Photo & Its Meaning
Gasore’s submission for the Photo Start Challenge was carefully chosen for its multiple layers of interpretation. The image not only reflects African culture and fashion but also conveys the universal emotion of happiness—a sentiment he deeply values and loves to capture in his work. Gasore used a Nikon D810 camera with a 24-300mm lens to create his stunning winning photograph, demonstrating both his technical prowess and artistic vision.
The Masterclass Experience with Katrin Eismann
As part of his prize, Gasore attended a masterclass with renowned photographer Katrin Eismann. With decades of experience in travel, still life, and portrait photography, Katrin has mentored countless photographers and currently works with the Adobe Lightroom team to create educational content.
Highlights from the Masterclass
During their session, Katrin emphasized:
- The importance of photographing subjects that personally resonate with the photographer.
- The role of observation in developing a unique visual style.
- The idea that a camera is merely a tool—the photographer’s vision and skill are what truly bring an image to life.
Gasore initially focused on camera brands, but Katrin reminded him that it’s not the equipment but the photographer’s creativity and dedication that make a difference.
Katrin’s Advice to Aspiring Photographers
Katrin shared a powerful message with Gasore and all young photographers: Keep going, believe in yourself, observe great work, be generous, build a community, make mistakes, and always wake up excited to shoot again.
